Spiritual Colonisation

The transatlantic slave trade of the 16th to 19th centuries overwhelmingly viewed native African faith and religious practice as idolatrous. As such, millions of slaves were converted to Christianity upon arrival in the New World. This forced them to abandon not only the countries and communities of their birth, but also their core spiritual identities.
